kemaren tiba2 teringat kejadian di sekitar akhir 2006-awal 2007. waktu itu, gw masih kuliah di bandung, dan sering bolak-balik ke rumah naik kereta. travel udah mulai booming sih, tapi berhubung kalo sampe jakarta rumah gw deket stasiun, jadi gw memilih untuk naik kereta kalo pulang ke rumah.

nah, pernah sekali naik kereta, sebelah gw tuh bapak2. sepanjang perjalanan dia ngajak ngobrol, nanya kuliah dimana, jurusan apa, bla..bla..bla..

trus tiba2, dia bilang begini :

X : "kamu kuliah di univ negeri, dosennya rese ga?"
Me : "rese gimana, pak?"
X : "ya, suka minta2 sogokan, suka jail sama mahasiswi"
Me : "ah, rasanya sih ga koq, pak. dosen2 di tempat saya baik2"
X : "masa? anak temen saya ada lho yang biar dapet nilai bagus mesti nyogok dulu. trus kan sering tuh ada dosen yang suka megang2 mahasiswi"
Me : "hmm.. tapi di tempat saya ga koq pak, malah baik2, taat beragama, rajin sholat kalo yang muslim"
X : "eh, rajin sholat tuh bukan jaminan orang baik lho.."
Me : (dalam hati : emang sih, pak, rajin sholat ga selalu orangnya baik, tapi ya, karena satu dan lain hal saya tahu beberapa tetap orang baik) "yah, tapi untungnya di tempat saya ga gitu, pak, tapi saya ga tahu deh kalau di jurusan lain"

setelah obrolan panjang, dan akhirnya berhenti karena gw ngantuk luar biasa, gw sempet mikir kaya gini. nih bapak koq berprasangka buruk banget yah? gw kuliah di salah satu univ terbaik negeri ini, dan diharapkan pengajarnya harus berkualitas dulu donk untuk menghasilkan produk yang berkualitas. jadi mana gw sempet mikirin yang namanya sogokan kaya gitu..

emang sih ada aja lah dosen yang kepribadiannya kurang menyenangkan buat kita, tapi bukan berarti boleh generalisasi bahwa semuanya berkepribadian buruk kan?

jadi teringat juga masalah salah satu dosen HI unpar yang kena kasus plagiat. yang melakukan plagiarisme kan individu, jadi jangan dibilang kalo semua dosen yang sudah punya gelar doktor akan melakukan plagiarisme juga donk..

kasian kan yang benar2 bekerja keras dan berkarya di bidang ilmunya dengan jujur..

why english?

after going to one of the bookstore and thinking of "which book i should buy next month?", i came to realize that most of my new books are in english. when i passed the "translated shelves", i lost my interest of finding the new books that i could buy. then, i switched to children book shelf, and finally found something i could buy.

it's roahl dahl's books.

yes, i really love his books, especially matilda and james and the giant peach. and don't forget the charlie and the chocolate factory.

actually, i love children books. they have easy to grasp storyline, easy to read, and full of fantasies. when i don't want to think hard while reading book, i usually grab one of my children book collection.

but then, i thought of another thing. they are translated ones. will i buy it? but the price is cheap, especially when i buy it with 30% discount..

but.. but..

i want to read it in english..

then, i think once again.

why? why english? when it comes to children books, they don't have to be in english. today's translator are good enough in conveying the real emotion of the story. so, why bother?

so i decide that the next fair i will buy children books :)

and for the other genre, i'll still buy the english version except for indonesian's author :p

and my want-to-buy list is getting longer.. and longer.. it won't stop.

banjir (tidak) parah

tiap masuk musim hujan jakarta itu hampir pasti banjir (5 tahun belakangan). rumah gw sih ga pernah kena banjir, tapi sekelilingnya kena, jadi biasanya jalanan tambah macet gara2 ruas jalan di depan rumah yang tadinya satu arah dibagi 2 jadi dua arah.

nah, mulai tahun kemaren ato 2 tahun lalu, pemda jakarta udah mulai merencanakan membangun banjir kanal timur (BKT). rencana yang dimaki2 oleh orang2 yang melewati jalan dimana BKT ini dibangun karena jalanan yang mereka lewatin jadi macet setengah mati tiap harinya. tapi kan ya no pain no gain.

meski ditentang dan dimaki2 karena efek sampingnya yang sangat tidak mengenakkan bagi pengguna jalan daerah pembangunan BKT, ternyata BKT ini banyak gunanya.

tahun ini meski hujannya cukup sering dengan intensitas tinggi, berita banjir di kawasan jakarta tidak separah tahun2 sebelumnya. berarti BKT ini ada gunanya juga kan?

memang sih, jakarta sempat macet marah waktu jumat malam beberapa bulan lalu, waktu awal2 musim hujan. tapi itu akhirnya hanya terjadi kali itu saja, dan tidak pernah terjadi kemacetan sampai separah itu lagi.

dan yang pasti sebagai pengguna mobil pendek, gw jadi ga takut bawa mobil di kala hujan karena ga bakal banjir parah :)

my hedon crazy wonderful gang

so, i have this gang that consist of 18 people (even i'm not sure whether this is the right number). most of us went to the same university, and some are the friends of one of us. some of us (about 7-8 persons) constantly meet almost every week, either on weekday or weekend or both.

and we have monthly gathering, we discuss every month where to meet, when, what will we eat, or if there will be any special thing we'd like to do. we discuss this by email, and when the topic is heating up, we can receive almost 30-40 emails per day (what a number, huh?)

it's fun though seeing the contents of those emails.. it can get bizarre until i'm laughing hard at the office (oh, no, this is not good, right? :P) and sometimes really made my day..

and it's always making me happy to know what my friends are up to.. what they are doing.. are they in good shape.. and who is in a relationship with whom.. there's always news to share.. there's always gossip to share :P

sometimes, the new couple are inside the circle, or one of them is the friend of one of us too.. so, my gang is getting bigger and bigger.. and the information always spread fast (or faster) :D

when we meet, we always start with eating. whether it's cheap or expensive, whether it's in the mall or just beside the road, whether it's raining or sunny, we will eat first and then do the chit-chatting.

i'm really grateful to have such wonderful friends :)

can't wait for the next meeting this week :)

terpaksa hari ini cari makan sendiri deh..

musim hujan selalu identik dengan kebakaran ya.. :(

sakit 6 bulanan

ga tahu kenapa, setiap 6 bulan sekali gw sakit

sakit standar :

pilek
batuk

dan biasanya di akhir2 menjelang gw sembuh

mimisan

dari kecil gw ini sering mimisan, kata dokter sih pembuluh darahnya tipis, makanya kalo lagi pilek ga boleh kenceng2 neken hidung

udah rada gede, mimisannya jadi jarang, say when I was 15-16, cuma kejadian paling sekali dalam 1-2 tahun. waktu kuliah juga cuma pernah 1-2 kali (seinget gw). tapi entah kenapa belakangan jadi sering lagi.

lebih tepatnya jadi sering lagi setelah gw operasi kista. kan kista gw emang letaknya di perbatasan antara langit-langit mulut dan hidung, dan pas operasi terjadi "kecelakaan" yang mengakibatkan gw masuk UGD dan dirawat inap semalam dan menyebabkan gw harus bed rest seminggu dan tidak bertenaga selama hampir 1 bulan

kembali ke soal sakit 6 bulanan ini..

biasanya sih terbatas di batuk pilek. kan tiap pancaroba ga jelas banget cuacanya. bentar panas banget, bentar hujan gede.

jadi ya.. kalo ampe sakit kaya terima nasib aja deh..

kalo pas sakit lagi ga ada event sih gapapa lah ya.. tapi terakhir ini sakit menjelang imlek, jadi meriang seharian, turunin panas dengan parasetamol, dan malamnya segar kembali, tapi tetep ga bisa makan banyak, masih eneg

besokannya, rada seger, tapi siang2 lemes juga

puncaknya tadi pagi, udah siap2 berangkat ke kantor, eh, tiba2 mimisan.. ampir 30 menit berusaha menghentikan mimisan trus akhirnya nyerah, minum segala jenis obat buat brentiin mimisannya..

dan ga nyetir mobil sendiri, minta dianterin..

hadoh! gawat nih kalo abis ini masih mimisan lagi.. moga2 ga deh..

meminta sumbangan

hari minggu kemaren, romo yang membawakan misa adalah romo tamu. sebenernya dia sedang bertugas di papua, mengurus sekolah swasta yang baru didirikan 10 tahun yang lalu.

dia bercerita bahwa di papua itu sekolah negeri yang terkenal adalah Sekolah Negeri 1, dan jumlah muridnya hingga ribuan. kalau ujian nasional semuanya lulus, tapi bukan karena anak2nya bisa mengerjakan ujian, lebih karena guru2nya sudah memberikan kunci jawaban terlebih dahulu yang tinggal dihafalkan oleh anak2 ini

jadi kalau anak2 di daerah lain malam sebelumnya masih bersusah payah menghafalkan segala rumus ataupun fakta2, anak2 papua ini hanya tinggal menghafalkan kunci jawabannya

merasa tidak adil? tapi memang begitu kenyataannya, mereka miskin, rumah jauh dari sekolah, banyak pekerjaan yang harus dilakukan meski mereka masih anak2, dan sebagian besar orangtuanya tidak mengenyam pendidikan yang layak yang bisa membuat para orangtua berpikir untuk mendidik anaknya dengan lebih baik.

kembali ke cerita sekolah swasta ini. di sana para gurunya tidak membiarkan para muridnya enak saja bisa lulus karena diberikan kunci jawaban sebelum ujian. di sekolah ini mereka dididik untuk belajar dengan sungguh2 dan harus mengerti dengan benar isi pelajarannya. di sekolah ini kedisiplinan sangat ditekankan. jadi ketika ujian nasional, masih ada 20-30% siswa yang biasanya tidak lulus. tapi bagi yang lulus, mereka lulus dengan usaha mereka sendiri.

kemudian sang romo bercerita soal seleksi anak daerah berprestasi yang diadakan oleh yohanes surya. dari banyak sekali anak yang ikut, termasuk yang dari sekolah negeri, yang akhirnya lolos seleksi hanya 5 orang.

4 dari sekolah swasta

siswa sekolah negeri ada 1000, siswa sekolah swasta 200

kalau dipersentase, hanya 0,1% dari siswa sekolah negeri yang diterima, sedangkan dari sekolah swasta 2%

dari sini terlihat yang siswanya lebih berkualitas yang mana.

setelah cerita panjang lebar, sang romo mengakui kalo dia lagi ngamen. ngamen untuk meminta sumbangan dari para umat yang hadir. akhirnya kolekte kedua ditujukan untuk pembangunan dan perbaikan kualitas sekolah ini. sang romo juga menerima sumbangan berupa barang.

setelah kolekte kedua diedarkan, uangnya langsung dihitung dan akhirnya diumumkan di akhir misa. dari hanya sekitar 300 umat yang hadir (yang mana sebagian besar datang bersama keluarga, mungkin kalau dihitung2 hanya sekitar 120-150 keluarga) jumlah uang yang ada terhitung fantastis.

bayangkan, 11,8 juta rupiah!

betapa banyak orang tergerak dari cerita sang romo untuk menyumbang! gw sendiri menyumbang cukup banyak dibanding kolekte biasa (cukup banyak versi gw) karena gw melihat tujuan yang ingin dicapai adalah jelas dengan latar belakang yang jelas pula.

tiap hari kerja di salah satu jalan yang gw lewatin ada beberapa orang yang meminta sumbangan dengan menggunakan jaring untuk perbaikan rumah ibadah

gw liat selalu ada saja yang memberikan sumbangan, tapi jumlahnya kecil, paling 1000, 2000, atau 5000, jarang gw liat ada yang memberikan 20000 atau 50000 apalagi 100000

gw jadi ngeh setelah kejadian di misa kemaren. orang akan menjadi malas untuk menyumbang ketika tujuan dan latar belakangnya tidak jelas.

gw sendiri ga pernah ngasih sumbangan ke yang di jalan itu. sorry aja sih, mereka entah udah berapa lama minta sumbangan tapi koq ya ga pernah kelar, padahal tiap hari (dan bukan cuma hari kerja, karena gw pernah lewat hari sabtu mereka tetep pada stand by buat minta sumbangan) jadi gw agak negative thinking tentang penggunaan uangnya itu

kalau dipikir2 sehari misalnya dapat 300 ribu (pukul rata) dalam sebulan berarti 9 juta. bandingkan dengan yang minta sumbangan di misa dengan celoteh panjang lebar selama 20 menit bisa dapat hampir 12 juta dalam sehari!

kenapa mereka ga ubah aja metode meminta sumbangannya yah? jadi kan ga usah tiap hari susah2 minta ke orang yang lewat...

Find a guy .. who calls you beautiful instead of hot.

who calls you back when you hang up on him.

who will stay awake just to watch you sleep. Wait for the guy who ..... kisses
your forehead.

Who wants to show you off to the world when you are in your sweats.

Who holds your hand in front of his friends.

Who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares about you and how lucky he
is to have you.

Who turns to his friends and says, ' That's her!! '
